Change is in the air. Can you feel it? Tonight in Oregon, it will be 29 degrees fahrenheit. Sunset comes at 4:30 PM now. The nights are long and cold. What better time to tell your life stories? Settle in with a warm mug of something delicious, and enjoy some reading.

Writers are submitting strong work to The Narrative Arc. Thank you for your writing.

When your essays arrive to us, we take great care with your words. For essays that are accepted, we read through your work. What do we look for?
Here are some of the elements.

  • Format needs to follow our guidelines
  • Photo, landscape format, engaging and relevant
  • Photo citations appropriate; sources linked; ALT text in place
  • Genre is appropriate to the publication: personal essays / memoir (nonfiction)
  • The story, in first person POV, includes a strong beginning, middle, and end
  • Engaging, with plenty of personality and writing style
  • Pacing and structure support the telling of the story
  • A sense of urgency; a need to tell that particular story, by that unique…
