Reflections on Our Years Together
Life is a beautiful ride
I have written several short bits about aging on this site. But I find it strange my sixties decade has passed without much notice. The reasons are complex. In my late fifties, my husband and I (pictured here) had moved from California to the “flyover” state of Iowa, my husband’s birthplace, after our careers in California. We found new careers working at a large funeral home complex and purchased a home built in 1865. The graceful old Italianate home needed much attention and repair. So in retrospect, we were pretty busy during my sixties!
Now that I am beginning my seventies decade, I find I reflect often on the past, my family, my love life, my parenting, my children’s childhood, and my career paths. (I have had several!) I have spent my career years teaching, as a small business owner, as a Certified Celebrant for funerals, and now AfterCare contact for grieving families. I do referrals and provide resources for reading and counseling for them.
Being the youngest son in a family of two boys and three girls, I had also passed through childhood relatively unnoticed. My parents had “been there, done that” and had the T-shirt. My mother bore five children in nine years, starting at age…
