My bank account was locked.

I stared at the screen. What the heck! I flipped my debit card over for the 800 number and called them. I’d get that account unlocked and proceed with my thousand-dollar deposit. Yes, a thousand dollars.

That sum was a fair deposit for the fridge and utility task vehicle (UTV).

My friend Rick had a colorful sales post on his FB page. Thirty of our mutual friends ‘liked’ it with hearts and thumbs up. It didn’t even occur to me it wasn’t credible.

His post said relatives were going into a different living situation. Elder care or something like that. I wasn’t going to press! It would be rude and insensitive.

These relatives of Rick’s were selling all their stuff. And Rick himself was taking care of the whole process. What a good guy to take care of his relatives.

I was amazed at the cool toys they had — two cars, a truck, two UTVs, a trampoline, a gazebo, a wrap-around couch, and everything looked so new. Well, that was Rick. No doubt his relatives took care of their things too. Shopping through the wide array of items was such fun.
