Why Statisticians, Not Politicians, Will Lead Us to a Sustainable Future

Last month’s visit to Berlin inspired me to write several articles in The Narrative Arc on Medium about lessons from Germany’s past relevant to today’s political developments. I wrote about how Berlin’s memorials warn America today and about lessons that Americans can learn from the Nazi resistance. But I haven’t yet shared what brought me to Berlin in the first place: I was the closing keynote speaker at the JMP Discovery Summit, where I spoke about the transformative potential of advanced statistical analysis in developing sustainable solutions for our planet.

When analytics meets environmental innovation

Recently, I stood before a filled conference hall in Berlin to deliver the closing keynote at the JMP Discovery Summit. Walking on stage, I was momentarily humbled by seeing large photos of my face projected on screens to my left and right while looking out into the darkened hall where only the faces on the first few rows were visible.
