If Your Startup’s Not The “Uber For This” Or “Airbnb For That,” Throw The Rulebook Out
#FacesOfEntrepreneurship with Farrukh Malik, founder of Roomored

Farrukh Malik is the founder of Roomored, and was featured on the Nasdaq Entrepreneurial Center’s social franchise #FacesOfEntrepreneurship.
Roomored is: “a virtual reality platform and we create interactive VR models of interior spaces.” Based in Dallas, Roomored’s goal is “to combine creativity with technology to produce a visually stunning masterpiece for your home.”
Here are some excerpts of our interview with Malik:
“One of my pet peeves is you find people are building things with the sole purpose of raising money, but not the sole purpose to generate revenue. What I’m doing is fairly new, so there’s not an ‘Uber for this’ or ‘Airbnb for that’ so I’ve faced a lot of hurdles there in that process. If your focus is setting up a good business and generating revenue, you’ll be fine.”
“One of the reasons I left the system is because not everything needs to be done by the book. I believe there’s no such thing as being an entrepreneur by the book. When you look at rules out there, books being written about how you should do things this way or that way, ‘follow these 10 steps,’ it doesn’t necessarily work all the time. You need to be strategic about what you do.”
