Successful entrepreneurship is about learning to “jump” instead of “dive” into the pond

Founded in 2013, The Dallas Entrepreneur Center (The DEC) is a co-working space designed to “help entrepreneurs start, build, and grow companies and to ensure that Dallas is recognized as a leading city for entrepreneurship throughout the country.”
Here are some excerpts of our Facebook Live interview with Trey Bowles:
“It takes guts to get out and explore an idea you have, leave a company and throw caution to the wind, and really be entrepreneurial. We undervalue the courage it takes to do that.”
It is horrible advice to say ‘take all your savings out of the bank, empty out your 401K, because if you’re not using every cent you have, then you don’t really care.’ I think you need a measured approach to entrepreneurship. Imagine entrepreneurship like a pond. Instead of diving headfirst, wouldn’t it make sense to walk up to the edge and look out and see how deep the water is and if there’s even water there? And if you do jump in, knowing how to get out? The idea of jumping in versus diving in is — you may break your tailbone, but you’re not going to break your neck.
