Submitting to Nass Lit

Nass Lit accepts submissions during a specified period each fall and spring semester. Accepted works will appear in one of our biannual print issues; featuring the best in student poetry, prose, and artwork.

We are currently closed for submissions. Please check back in early 2021 for our Spring 2021 submission cycle.

General Guidelines

• All undergraduate Princeton students, including students on gap years, are welcome to submit their work.
• All work should be submitted to nasslit@princeton.edu, with the subject line “Submission: [Genre],” replacing [Genre] with “Prose,” “Poetry,” or “Art.”
• Submissions must be sent from an official Princeton email account to verify enrollment status.
• Do not put your name anywhere in the document title or within the document itself; we have a blind selection policy.
• Try to keep your submission under 25 pages total.
• Multiple works in the same genre should be submitted in the same email; submit all works as attachments and not in the body of the email.

Prose:

• The document(s) should be titled as follows: “Genre_Title_WordCount.”
• Please attach every work as its own document in the email. Set your text to 12 pt. Times New Roman (or a similar font). Prose should be double spaced.
• Please submit only .doc or .docx files.
• We accept plays, screenplays and translations. Please note them in the email.

Poetry:

• The document(s) should be titled as follows: “Genre_Title.”
• Please attach every work as its own document, unless you would like your poems to be judged as a collection/suite. In that case, please also notify us in the body of the email. Set your text to 12pt. Times New Roman (or a similar font).
• Please try to submit .doc or .docx files. If, however you are working with a particularly unique form and require sending in a PDF, you may do so.
• We accept translations. Please note them in the email.

Art:

• Your art files should be named as follows: “Medium_Title.” If your title is long/complicated, feel free to list their proper names in the body of the email.
• The resolution of any image submitted must be at least 300 dpi.
• If you want to submit an image to be a one-page spread, it must be at least 600 dpi.
• If possible, do not send us art in JPEG or GIF formats, as they will inevitably be lower-quality than a PNG, TIF, or PSD image due to compression.

Essay Guidelines:

Our dedicated and talented staff writers also produce critical and personal essays for the website throughout the year. If you are interested in writing an essay for the website as a guest contributor, you may submit a pitch, a partial draft, or a completed piece at any time during the academic year to nasslit@princeton.edu. We are selective, but are happy to meet with you in person to talk about your ideas, both during and after the selection process. Notable essays may be reprinted in the print issue, and exceptional guest contributors may be considered for positions on the staff.
