Features

Battlefield 1 was released a long-time back now, but it seems relevant to mention the expansion ‘In the Name of the Tsar’ which went somewhat under the radar last September. The new DLC allows gamers to play as female soldiers in the Russian Army, as part of the Russian Civil War. It seems a shame that a bigger deal was not made about this expansion, but it’s promising that more women appear to be featuring in videogames.

Augmented reality has led to some fantastic advances in gaming, Pokemon Go being perhaps the most significant example in recent history. If you’re into something more active, you can now try out augmented climbing and trampolining. Both of these have been developed by Valo Motion to complement the exercises with technology which makes them even more fun! Check out their website and these videos.

Events

The Games Developers Conference in San Francisco is just around the corner (19th March), with talks on design, programming and business & marketing. This event is for anyone remotely interested in working in the games industry — if you have the time, inclination and money to get yourself there, you can still register to attend.

Check out the events going on at the arcade over the next month, it would be great to see you all at the NVA’s monthly quiz which takes place next Thursday (15th March) in the Toast Bar.
