Get the most out of Midjourney’s Permutation Prompts to generate multiple variations of AI-created content in one shot.

If you’re familiar with the AI-generated content landscape, you’ve likely encountered Midjourney at this point

But, Midjourney seems to keep releasing better and better functionality as we move forward. It’s honestly kind of hard to keep up! For example, were you familiar with the “permutation prompt” feature? I wasn’t, but it’s a highly useful tool for those that are serious about leveling up their Midjourney skills.

This is a must-try feature for anyone trying to generate multiple variations with a single command — lets find out why!

WHAT ARE PERMUTATION PROMPTS?

Permutation prompts let you whip up multiple versions of a prompt by enclosing a list of options within curly braces {}. For instance, if you input /imagine prompt a {blue, orange, purple} cat, Midjourney will churn out three different jobs:

/imagine a blue cat

/imagine an orange cat

/imagine a purple cat

Midjourney will pop-up a warning to ensure that you want to start multiple jobs at one time

It’s important to note that you need to have a subscription to access this feature, and the permutations will process in fast mode.

MORE THAN JUST TEXT: PARAMETERS AND WEIGHTS

Permutation prompts aren’t confined to text alone. You can also include image prompts, parameters, and prompt weights. For instance, you could modify the Midjourney version of your generated images with a prompt like /imagine a cosmic cat — {v 5, niji, test}.

ADVANCED USAGE: NESTED PERMUTATIONS

If you’re up for a challenge, nested permutations are worth exploring. For instance, /imagine prompt a {shark, dolphin} {swimming, leaping} in a {lake, ocean} will generate eight different jobs, each with a unique combination of the options.

You’ll need the a Standard, Pro, or Mega subscription to run more than 4 concurrent jobs

QUICK TIPS

  • You need a Midjourney subscription for this feature to work.
  • Permutation Prompts are available only in Fast Mode.
  • Each job consumes GPU minutes, so be mindful of your usage.
  • You’ll receive a confirmation message before the jobs start.

WRAPPING UP

Permutation prompts in Midjourney offer a streamlined way to explore lots of possibilities of AI-generated content quickly. This feature can optimize your time and add a layer of creativity to your projects by presenting more unique options to choose from.
