Dr Peter Cummings had dissected so many brains as a forensic scientist and neuropathologist. He could show you that there is no evidence of a soul or consciousness in a dead human brain.

But all his convictions were about to change.

He went on a water rafting trip in Costa Rica for his wife’s birthday. They rafted in a challenging river, and naturally, they flipped.

Peter went under. He did not panic as going under was expected.

He even thought it was fun to be tossed around by the waves. Unfortunately, he got pulled under, and he was drowning.

Peter didn’t panic. As a specialist in forensics, he knew that drowning was one of the more peaceful ways to die. So he waited for it to be over.

He was stuck next to a bolder. Then, all of a sudden, everything stopped, as if someone had pressed pause on a recording. The bubbles in the water disappeared.

Suddenly, a very bright light appeared and engulfed everything.
