Maria Lupita Gurulé gave birth to her daughter and had to go for surgery.

She had a history of pregnancy complications. So, the doctors recommended tubal ligation (removal of fallopian tubes to prevent pregnancy permanently).

As they prepped her for surgery, the anesthesiologist asked her if she was feeling okay. They administered a spinal block anesthesia, numbing the lower part of her body. Other than that, she was supposed to be alert.

Maria Lupita saw another person being wheeled to the surgery room. She was observing her from above.

From the medical team’s perspective, Maria Lupita delivered her daughter to the maternity ward, and she was being transported to a general surgery area. The team was in a hurry to intubate and resuscitate her.

The anesthesia had impacted her heart and lungs.

So Maria Lupita was clinically dead (for eight minutes).
