As Long As We’re At War With Nature — We Can’t Save the Environment

Make no mistake about it, people have been at war with nature for decades. Worse now than it was back at the beginning of the Industrial age. We relentlessly chase, poison, kill, and destroy. Our behavior causes more significant problems in nature, and we retaliate with more destruction under the guise of “solutions.” Thankfully, not every community participates in this mass killing, making it evident that pockets of alternatives are available. Knowing these alternatives drives us to push for change that will allow us to strike a balance with nature.

Wolves — A Misunderstood Guardian

Perhaps one of the best-known examples is humanity’s war with wolves. Our made-up “big bad wolf” story fuels a fire that never should have started. Wolves are peaceful and self-regulating creatures. There is no such thing as having too many wolves. However, from senseless stories like this one in Daniel, WY to posts from Joe Rogan that serve nothing but to plant falsehoods — we understand where the rage comes from and also struggle to get the facts across.

To many people’s surprise — wolves aren’t even in the top 3 cattle killers. Coyotes, unknown predators, and dogs are. In 2023, wolves killed 49 livestock in Wyoming — including cows, sheep and goats. There are over two million
