A Walk in the Wisconsin Woods on the Timm’s Hill National Trail

Wisconsin boasts some of the most beautiful natural scenery anywhere

We are fortunate to live in such a beautiful state with a myriad of natural settings for enjoyment. Our home sits on a small freshwater lake surrounded by forests of pine, mature aspen, hickory, and oak.

Each day involves some time in the woods but last week we ventured further. We ate our usual Wednesday breakfast out at our favorite diner. Then, we went to the Timm’s Hill Trailhead near the observation in the county park nearby.

We left our vehicle and started hiking back to our home, through the woods. We expected it to take a few hours. Armed with a trail map and bug spray, into the woods we went.

Timm’s Hill is the highest geographic point in Wisconsin at 1,951 feet (source). There’s a great observation tower there that lets you see for miles on a clear day. It’s one of our favorite places to go in autumn.

This time the tower was not our objective. It was to hike the entire way back to the house.
