Is a part of me

The coyote stalks the hills
And makes me not afraid
He looks to find himself
No longer fearing snakes
Kicking dust below his feet the sky
Turns rust as daylight fades
He’s lost; looking for his shadow
He finds a man who
Howls
The coyote does too

Are you scared of night
When gates close
And whispers grow
And wind soughs lightly
Through the brush
I think I hear myself now
Traversing the hills that will always
Be home
Where birds call
Green leaves clamor for summer
I ran these hills as a boy
The sky was still blue
I remember the same feelings
Watching a hawk glide near the
Face of the sloping
Mountain looking for me
Finding only remnants of the past
Footprints
Dust

It’s cooling down in Malibu
Damn, the breeze feels good
After running in the hills
Dancing
As a child again
