- Bill Clinton took office as President in January, 1993.
- In ‘97, Paula Jones sued Clinton for sexual harassment.
- During this trial Clinton was asked about Monica Lewinsky and he denied sexual relations with her.
- Lewinsky was hired at the White House in 1995.
- She told her friend, Linda Tripp, about her personal relationship with Clinton.
- Tripp secretly recorded these conversations.
- Tripp gave the tapes to Ken Starr, who was leading an independent investigation into Clinton for other things.
- Based on the tapes and Clinton’s testimony in the Jones case, Starr concluded Clinton had perjured himself.
- It was on this basis that Clinton was impeached in the House. He was later acquitted in the Senate.
