Back 2 Basics — A Social Media Series of The Nexus Initiative

Whether you are a seasoned professional or an employee just out of college, it never hurts to go back to the basics.

A good way to harvest new insights is to maintain a beginner’s mindset.

This is the sentiment behind my “Back 2 Basics” series. We go back to the basics to refresh and perhaps find new insights.

How good is your organization at training employees on the basics when it comes to meetings? Previously, we asked the question, “Can you guess what these are?” and provided a list of 16 phrases we’ve all heard before.

The answer to that question is: They are all symptoms of ineffective meeting invitations.

I know. It’s an embarrassingly simple concept to master. Yet, how often have we seen the effects of ineffective meeting invitations? The answer is that too often, people don’t take the time to practice the basics.

The absence of these basics in something as simple as meeting invitations can waste time, create unneeded friction amongst employees, and delay important decision-making.

This image is about the basic skill of effective meeting invites. It covers some of the common mistakes people make when they set up meetings that result in lost productivity.

Some additional questions to consider:

* How much time do you want your team or company to spend answering questions like this?

* What if your competitor spends less time on these questions than your company?

* What is the productivity impact of not addressing this easy inefficiency?

The good news is that it’s an easy fix.
