Poke Bowls

You may have seen these bright, colorful bowls on Instagram starting in the second half of 2017. Poke is a Hawaiian dish that features raw, marinated fish often tossed over a bed of rice, seasoned with a wide variety of toppings such as sesame seeds, scallions, and hot sauce. The fish is paired with fresh vegetables like avocado, and drizzled in a dressing like soy, or fish sauce. Raw fish not your thing? Some Poke spots offer tofu as an option! What makes these bowls so much fun to eat is how they are completely customizable, a food trend that was huge in 2017.

Edible Flowers

Flowers are basically salad, right? If you didn’t think so before, you’ll definitely think so soon. Bloggers and their followers alike are now turning to flowers for a bit of flourish on their smoothie bowls, in drinks, and even in omelettes. Why? It could be the sweet taste some flowers are said to have, or it could just be for a pretty pop of color, but either way, expect to see more and more flowers in your food in the coming months.

Mediterranean Food

From the full-blown Mediterranean Diet to a grape leaves snack, expect to see a lot more of this cuisine for the remainder of this year. It seems foodies everywhere are loving the fresh quality of light vegetables, a side of protein, hummus, and a freshly-baked pita to stuff it all in for lunch this year. Mediterranean courses offer a balance of a lot of veggies and hummus with a side of protein, which differs from many meat-forward American entrees.

Food Tech?

Hands-free voice ordering, meal-box delivery services, and ordering ahead? You better believe it. Restaurant technology is the star of the show in 2018. This year, ordering your food ahead of time and skipping the line will be bigger than it was last year, and why not? With so many fun food trends to try, you have no time to waste.
