Meet Taiwo Akinfe, Our laptop beneficiary for our International Women’s day Learning resources program.

Taiwo, a recipient of our International Women’s day Learning program resources, Laptop category

Taiwo is a wife and mother of one who resides in Lagos, Nigeria and only recently began her journey into tech. She graduated in 2015 with a degree in Computer science, but since then has been unable to land a well-paying and sustainable job.

This ultimately motivated her decision to begin learning a skill in late 2022, that would help her get prepared for the amazing world of tech. After discussing with her partner and family, she made a decision to learn data analytics.

However, she had a constraint, she didn’t have a laptop to start her journey and had to rely on “borrowing” the laptop of a friend every evening to learn through the night and return back to her friend in the morning.

In her words,

I am a beginner learning Data Analysis, but I have been learning with my phone and only get to practice with a borrowed laptop every night and return back to the owner in the morning.

She applied for our International women’s day Learning resources program, where we distributed some learning devices and support, and was chosen as the beneficiary for the Laptop category.

We are excited to support Taiwo’s journey with a learning device that makes her learning process easier and seamless, and cannot wait for the amazing things she will do in the coming months to develop her skills and dreams!

Taiwo is interested in not only building her skills, but is set on growing them to a successful career within the Tech industry, to support her family, and proffer data-driven solutions to the many industries, where she can apply her skills.

Her story is really inspiring, as even with the few resources available, she has continued her learning process, and we are so proud of her and happy to support her journey from this moment.

Her story is however similar to so many others we have encountered. Many young people, particularly women, and girls lack access to resources, devices, and opportunities to drive their learning process. Supporting them to continue and consistently learn skills and build themselves is a great way to enable them to participate in and build successful careers within the tech industry.

Support and join us to continue to empower women and girls like Taiwo with skills and resources to drive their growth. Send us a message at hello@nsonye.org to get started.
