The gaming industry is at another important crossroads in its history. The next generation of hardware is set to shift to digital only games and micro transactions are forming an integral part of the game developers fiscal strategy. How this plays out will have a profound effect on all aspects of the industry.

Will gamers continue to accept the costly and rigid practises of the centralised marketplaces?

The appetite for a more fluid approach is starting to gain traction, with the recent announcement that Fortnite will now deliver true cross-platform play being very well received in the gaming community. Market leaders like Sony can no longer lock gamers to just their private networks, demand for cross-play and portability of games, items and reputations is constantly on the rise. This is expected to be the dawn in a change of philosophy for Sony, but they will take some time and possibly a console generation for complete implementation.

The revolution has already begun, with some of the leading game developers having already turned their back on the centralised marketplaces.

Fortnite are also leading the changes in the industry by migrating away from the dominance of the centralised marketplaces, now using direct downloads from the Epic Games site rather than the Google Play store. They won’t be the last to find the high cost (30%) to be too much of a limitation on their business models and to seek an alternative solution.

The solution for the biggest players in the industry is simple, just create their own Launch System, but for Indie game developers, it is a different story. The lack of discovery in marketplaces combined with the high cost of developing bespoke launching systems, leaves them seeking alternatives. This is where nTitle’s blockchain commerce solution comes in.

The next stage in the evolution for the games industry is a fully distributed solution, something that blockchain technology can offer.

At nTitle, we are determined to revolutionise how people perceive their digital assets.

Using the tools we have created, we will make every gamer an active member of the economy. The conversion from asset custodians to true ownership will awaken this new economy by activating a current army of static users.

Introducing the ability to perform sales at the point of discovery, through existing social media channels and new architecture utilising QR codes, will transform dormant asset holders into active traders. Our vision is to introduce the Network Effect to the Games Industry, where everyone will have true ownership of their digital assets and everyone with a digital asset can become a trader.

The mission is clear: It is time to create an equitable ecosystem for all stakeholders in the gaming industry: creators, game developers, gamers and influencers.
