Sometimes it just seems like the world needs rebellion. So many rules. So arbitrary. So pointless. So many mooks. So many people are average (heckler: that’s why there’s average you monkeycocking dummy!). Good point, dear heckler, but can’t the average be a little higher? Why must the bar be set so continually low? Well, if average ticks you off and makes you want to piss in the punch, drive into oncoming traffic, and put your headphones on your genitals and pump the bass, then you might get the thought process behind Joan Miro. He says,

I try to apply colors like words that shape poems, like notes that shape music.”

I’ve included five photos I took of his paintings. They were all taken in his native Barcelona at Fundació Joan Miró. What really struck me while looking at his paintings was that he really knew how to challenge the mooks, the power structure, the critics, himself, everyone. He knew how to stick it to an art world that he felt was dishonest and impure — much how I feel about the publishing world, see Sarchasmo Books (geni.us/Sarchasmo / geni.us/Sarchasmo2) — with an endless barrage of burning canvasses, sole dots of paint on a massive canvas, and other cubist techniques that challenged conventional ideas with a foot to the anus. For the poets reading this, I think you may find his paintings unbelievably inspirational if you enjoy challenging norms with your work.

When I look at Miro’s art I’m impressed by a feeling that he’s making fun of me. I love it. He’s mocking me with his images. I mean he lit one of the canvasses I’m staring at on fire. I see the charred edges and the way the fire discolored the paint. I want to do that do one of my books. Try to disintegrate it to change the way people look at publishing. People need to change the way they think. We all need our minds blasted open. Mira un Miró y abre la mente.

Pop Art gets some of its mojo from Miro & so does Smutpunk
