OCEAN Token Airdrop: Over 10 Million Tokens Delivered
Our initial OCEAN token airdrop is now complete! We sent over 10m tokens to early adopters and select Ethereum addresses.
As a quick reminder, OCEAN tokens provide a discount on gas and transaction fees for each and every trade placed on our platform. There is no need to spend the token — simply holding it cuts fees. The more OCEAN tokens in your wallet, the greater the discount.
How did we distribute these tokens?
We airdropped OCEAN tokens to 1) Ethereum addresses that registered for our platform and 2) select addresses that we identified via the public Ethereum ledger:
- 2000 tokens to early adopters who registered and completed identity verification before 12:00am EST on August 13, 2018.
- 750 tokens to ETH addresses who made at least 1 trade on any 0x relayer.
- 500 tokens to ETH addresses who hold at least $1000 USD in ZRX.
- 375 tokens to ETH addresses who hold at least $10,000 USD in other ERC20 tokens.
If you met multiple criteria (e.g., both one trade on a 0x relayer and at least $1000 ZRX), you received the sum of those tokens (875 OCEAN tokens). The maximum number of tokens distributed to a single address was 2000, corresponding to our maximum discount of 50% on fees.
If I created an account but didn’t complete my identity verification, can I still receive my tokens?
Yes, but you must have created an account with The Ocean prior to August 13th. Once you are approved and have entered your ETH address, we’ll airdrop tokens to you and other stragglers (on an intermittent basis). To complete your sign-up, sign in and follow our registration process before August 31st.
- Login to your account: Use the email and password that you signed up with initially.
- Verify your identity: All users’ identities must be submitted and validated to ensure a fair and efficient marketplace. Any incorrect or unverifiable information will automatically set your account status to under review.
- Get approved: If all your information and documents are in place, it should be smooth sailing. You’ll be shortly notified via email with a link to enter your Ethereum address.

Why did you distribute tokens to Ethereum addresses that did not sign up for your airdrop?
Our overarching goal is to build the best performing, most liquid trading experience for as many users as possible. This means onboarding not only our supporters from day one — but also folks who are unaware of us, the 0x Project, or even the concept of a “decentralized exchange”. We want everyone to learn about DEXs, and an airdrop is a nice vehicle for this interest to begin.
Could you remind me how these tokens work?
If you hold OCEAN tokens in your wallet, you’re all set! Login to our platform, make a trade, and a discount on fees will be automatically applied. There is no need to spend them to receive your discount. You read about the token in detail here.
What do I do with my OCEAN tokens now?
Start trading! There are 11 tokens available on The Ocean today. As long as you hold OCEAN tokens in your wallet, your fees will be discounted. And if you want to trade your tokens to someone else, you can do so in our OCEAN/wETH order book.
