The Chicago Bears QB of the future, Mitchell.

I’m just going to start by saying this:

I feel like we were robbed

There, I said it.

Last Thursday the Chicago Bears decided that it was time to try address a longstanding issue with the franchise — the quarterback position. They did so by trading two third-round draft picks (one for next year) and a fourth-round draft pick to move up one spot and take their guy, Mitchell “Don’t you dare call me Mitch” Trubisky.

My first thought at approximately 8:30 p.m. last night was shock. That first thought was quickly followed by another, surprise. Finally, I settled into a nice healthy third thought — anger.

A real-time shot of me in my living room on Thursday night.

After spending the last few months analyzing and reanalyzing every NFL mock draft made available to me, I did not see this coming. After John Fox took a top defender with Carolina, Julius Peppers, and another during his time with Denver, Von Miller, I expected him to advise GM Ryan Pace to do more of the same.

That is not what they did. They passed up defensive prospects like Solomon Thomas, Jamal Adams and Marshon Lattimore to swing for the fences and try to find Chicago the first franchise quarterback they have ever truly had (in my humble opinion).

Exhibit A

I spent much of last night reading up on my new QB of the future. I learned everything from his strengths, to his weaknesses, to his anatomical preferences of the female body. I hit the pillow with a heavy head and decided I needed to really sleep on this one over the course of the weekend.

Which brings us to right now, time for a sober second-thought.

I am excited (I think).

The Bears decided to move backwards in the draft to make another bizarre move — drafting a division two standout tight end Adam Shaheen to recoup picks. As a result, the Chicago Bears gave up a third-round draft pick to move up one spot in the draft… that’s not bad.

“Baby Gronk” runs over inferior competition in Div 2 for 16 TDs in 2016

After watching organizations like the Rams, Redskins and Eagles hemorrhage their future to try and land a franchise QB, I don’t feel like this move is unprecedented or unwarranted. For crying out loud, the Kansas City Chiefs gave up a their first-round pick next year to move up to take Patrick Mahomes.

After last year’s draft gave us three top-flight rookie talents, I have faith in the process — thanks Joel.

And after watching the quarterback play in Chicago over the past decade-and-a-half in a division defined by elite arm talent like Aaron Rodgers and Matt Stafford — I think it was finally our turn to play Russian roulette to try and acquire the most sought-after position in football, and perhaps in any sport.

Adios, Smokin’ Jay.
