The race is already on for the #1 overall pick in the 2018 draft.

What is going on with the New York Jets?

That was a rhetorical question. Since February 2017, here is what has gone on with gang green:

February 10: Jets void the contract of career backup quarterback and perennial disappointment Ryan Fitzpatrick after playing chicken last offseason and shelling out $12 million for a five win season.

February 25: Jets release seven-time Pro Bowler and two-time All-Pro center Nick Mangold, a man who actually remembers the last time it was marginally acceptable to play for New York.

March 1: Jets release seven-time Pro Bowler Darelle Revis, who admittedly has not owned his own island for quite some time.

March 3: Jets release veteran wide receiver Brandon Marshall who has accounted for 2290 yards and 17 touchdowns since coming to the big apple. This guy has aged like a fine wine and will get the chance to continue playing at Metlife Stadium after signing with the scary-looking football Giants.

March 18: Jets sign cornerback and well-known draft bust Morris Claiborne after he was left out to dry by the Cowboys. It should also be noted that Claiborne believes that when he is healthy he is the best player at his position (bonus!)

June 6: Jets release 11-year veteran linebacker David Harris, who spent all of his career in New York totaling 1,260 career tackles which puts him second overall in the franchise.

June 6: Jets release veteran wide receiver Eric Decker, who underwent hip and shoulder surgery last fall.

Veterans. Jettisoning older players has been a constant theme this offseason for the Jets. The franchise is attempting to turn over a new leaf and get younger by starting redshirt quarterback Christian Hackenberg, who couldn’t win a job in year one in a quarterback room full of street performers.

It’s clear that the Jets are ready to turn the corner… without any cornerstone players.

Who is the first Jet that will be taken in fantasy football this year? The only player to even get drafted in Michael Fabiano’s 2017 mock draft is Decker, who won’t even be on the team come September.

It’s a dark time for Jets fans, but at least they have a young and dynamic defence!

So young and dynamic that they ranked 28th in points allowed last season.

So young and dynamic that they have to stop each other from assaulting women at music festivals.

So young and dynamic that they are going to be a part of one of the worst teams we have seen in the past decade.
