Imposter Syndrome is Dead
And Donald Trump killed it.
For many years, decades even, I have dealt with what is generally known as “Imposter Syndrome.” Put simply, it’s the idea that I am not qualified to do the job that I do, that I am functionally an imposter hiding amongst my coworkers. Everyone else here is much more qualified than I am, of course — that’s what makes me an imposter. And of course, someone will eventually catch on and I will be fired for gross incompetence or something of the sort.
Imposter Syndrome is a major personal insecurity that a lot of people face, and whether or not you call it that (or if the term gets overused or whatever), it has been all over the work landscape for a few years now. It sometimes gets lumped in with the millennial generation, since a lot of us feel that way for one reason or another.
Well, I’m here to tell you that Imposter Syndrome is dead, and Donald Trump killed it.
No, really, let me explain.
I have been doing my job for over 15 years now, and a lot of people call me an expert even if I don’t feel that way myself. Even still, I am fairly knowledgeable about my job and the things that go into it, so even on my worst days I still feel like I can make it through.
