A case study in poop

When my Blu-Ray copy of the “Death Toilet” trilogy from SRS Cinema arrived, 5 thoughts occurred to me. The first four were “Why did I buy this?” The last was, “It can’t be worse than Shark Exorcist”. I miss that naive Brandon from 2 weeks ago.

“Death Toilet”, “Death Toilet Number Two” and “Death Toilet: Call of Doody” each clock in at just under an hour in runtime. While it sometimes felt like an eternity trapped in a hot porta-potty, it wasn’t a huge time investment. The same characters appear in each film, with more or less the same plot. For those of you expecting a more cerebral experience from your movies that center around an extended toilet joke, you may be disappointed.

“Death Toilet” opens, like most Oscar-worthy films, with the director getting knifed in the balls by his toilet while taking a noisy dump. While this may seem crass and juvenile to the unrefined palette, I would direct the discerning viewer to the Vietnam War footage it is juxtaposed against. Might the director be saying something here? Perhaps this bonkers opening sequence is a statement of neo-colonialism and U.S. global hegemony pertaining to the Asian Pacific. Probably not.
