Thirty-Six Hours of Coding (and Yoga) at Stanford
Reflecting on the TreeHacks hackathon.
--
Students at Stanford University, in partnership with Major League Hacking, put on a fantastic event at TreeHacks last weekend. The event, sponsored by top organizations such as Microsoft, IBM, Best Friends Animal Society, and Disney, mobilized nearly 400 students from all over the U.S.
For 36 hours straight (with occasional yoga breaks), participants enthusiastically plugged away at building mobile app and hardware solutions for the education, healthcare, and virtual reality sectors. Neura’s developers had the chance to mentor some of the students and help them with their projects, making for a wonderful experience.
Here are some of the best app creations that incorporated Neura’s artificial intelligence (AI) engine.
Winners
Thrive
First Place
Thrive is an app that connects patients and providers to create better health outcomes. Patients can search for healthcare providers and read reviews on them before scheduling an appointment. After the appointment, Thrive will remind the patient to take the medication they were prescribed and leave a review of the provider. Patients also can easily communicate with their provider through the in-app chat feature.
“The Neura API helped us send users push notifications at the right moment when they needed it. We could successfully send the push notification before a patient went to bed to remind them to take their medication.”
— Matias, Thrive
Assist ASD
Second Place
Assist ASD is an app that helps people living with autism better manage their condition. Using image/facial recognition, the app helps the user understand social signals. In addition, leveraging Neura’s contextual awareness engine, the app informs the user’s caretaker of important events like the user’s real-time location, sleeping patterns, and physical activities. Caretakers and behavioral therapists use these insights to individualize their patients’ intervention plans.
“Neura’s ability to gain contextual insights about each user is groundbreaking. I’m definitely planning to use the SDK in my future projects.”
— Alex, Assist ASD team
Kudos to all the students who coded from sun up to sun down at TreeHacks! We’re excited to see your future projects.
Come see us at SF Hacks at San Francisco State University on March 18–19.
