Their path to a national championship wasn’t easy.

Ole Miss Baseball Regular Season Results

The Ole Miss Rebels started the 2022 season red hot.

They won 13 of their first 16 games. All 16 of these games were against non-conference opponents.

Ole Miss won the first SEC series against Auburn, and then returned home to be swept by Tennessee.

After traveling to Kentucky and winning that series, the Rebels proceeded to drop their next four SEC series. Things weren’t looking good for the Rebel’s postseason hopes.

But the Rebels swept their next two SEC series against Missouri and LSU before dropping the season's final series to Texas A&M.

Ole Miss ended SEC play by losing their first game of the SEC tournament to Vanderbilt. The Rebel’s final conference record was 14–16.

The Ole Miss Rebels hoped they wouldn’t be on the outside looking in on the postseason play.

Ole Miss Baseball Regional Results

The Rebels were one of the last teams selected for a regional, and they traveled to Coral Gables to see if they could extend their season.

The Rebels won the first game against Arizona 7–4 and moved on to the winners' bracket to face the host seed — the #6 Miami Hurricanes.

Ole Miss beat Miami 2–1 in dramatic fashion and awaited the winner of the game between Arizona and Miami.

Ole Miss played Arizona again, but this time it wouldn’t be close. Ole Miss won 22–6 and earned a spot as one of the final 16 teams in a Super Regional.

Ole Miss Baseball Super Regional Results

Ole Miss stayed in their home state and traveled to Hattiesburg, Mississippi to face Southern Mississippi in a Super Regional where the first team to win two games would move on to the World Series.

Ole Miss dominated both games, winning game one by a score of 10–0 and game two by a score of 5–0.

One of the last teams invited into postseason play had fought its way to the World Series.

And the Rebels were hot.

Ole Miss Baseball World Series Results

The Ole Miss Rebels would face a familiar opponent in their first game — the Auburn Tigers. The Rebels beat their SEC foes 5–1.

In the Rebels’ second game, they faced another SEC team in the Arkansas Razorbacks. Once again, the Rebel bats took over and led the Rebels to a 13–5 victory.

Arkansas battled their way back to playing Ole Miss again. The Razorbacks would need to beat the Rebels twice to advance to the World Series final, while the Rebels would only need to win one game.

Arkansas won the first game by a close score of 3–2. Whoever won the next game would be going to the World Series final.

Ole Miss starting pitcher Dylan DeLucia threw a complete game shut-out and the Rebels won 2–0. The Ole Miss Rebels would be facing the Oklahoma Sooners in the World Series final.

The final would be a best-out-three games series. Ole Miss got out to a fast start and won the first game 10–3.

In the second game, the Ole Miss offense was held in check most of the game by Oklahoma’s starting pitcher. But after the Oklahoma starting pitcher was removed from the game, Ole Miss took a 4–2 lead.

One strike away from victory, the Ole Miss closer stepped off the mound and pointed at his catcher. This was it. This was the moment they had worked so hard for. This was why they kept believing in each other.

Brandon Johnson reared back with the fans on their feet and threw one final pitch.

Ole Miss Baseball wins 2022 World Series

Full disclaimer: I’m a lifelong Ole Miss fan. This Ole Miss team challenged me as a fan so many times over the season.

I wasn't sure they had this in them…and I’m so glad I was wrong.

At the end of the day, what the fans think about a team doesn’t matter. If the team can stay together and play their game, they can reach their goals.

The 2022 World Series Champions — the Ole Miss Rebels — are living proof of that fact.

I’ll never forget this team.
