Looks like you’ve done it again…You followed your heart and forgot to take your mind with you.

We all know when February comes around, there are break-ups, make-ups, boo’ed-ups and hook-ups. Cuffing season ended at the turn of the new year and all of a sudden two people who fell hard for each other suddenly get up off the ground and realize that the fall into love kind of hurt. Emotions in the game of love change quickly.

“Somethin’ ain’t right when we talkin’.. Somethin’ ain’t right when we talkin’… Look like you hidin’ your problems.. Really you never was all in…”

Drake’s song Fake Love has become a banner of reality for some. While he adds his touch of Drakeism to the words of the song, Fake Love turns from an anthem of exposing snakes in your circle to you thinking about the guy or girl you wasted a few months of your time getting to know.

Everything that felt right suddenly feels wrong. Word and actions are no longer adding up. Flashbacks to the beginning of the situationship play over and over again as if Cupid is hitting the rewind button, just so you can play the scenes of your life in slow motion. And as you watch scenes re-play, you see things you didn’t notice before.

Every sign that was obviously telling you to “STOP” or “MAKE A U-TURN” was ignored. You were hesitant to start because you had a feeling that the beginning would really be the end. Blinded by what you want and enticed by what you think we need, you jump back in the game — heart first, head last.

Looks like you’ve done it again…You followed your heart and forgot to take your mind with you. Just when you decided to get serious, you realized it was a game.

“Yeah, straight up to my face, tryna play it safe.. Vibe switch like night and day, I can see it like right away.. I came up, you changed up, I caught that whole play.. Since then, things never been the same.”

Here’s the deal: every now and again, the universe will send someone into your life when you least expect it. Just when you were feeling content with being single, the anticipation of having someone to call your own again sneaks up on you. And just when you thought you forgot what butterflies felt like, there you are smiling away at the thought of your new interest. Someone told us that the best love is sometimes unexpected love..and we believed it.

Fast forward to the present, and the butterflies are gone and you’re left thinking, “What just happened here?” You may think “I should have known better,” or “I’m too old to keep doing this.” Deep down you know, you’ve just been bit by the “fake love” bug and the effects of the bite have worn off. And that’s okay!

Don’t think that you’ve wasted your time. Don’t think that the real thing may never come. You just want someone to give you a “Sunday Kinda Love” instead of a Saturday night special and there’s nothing wrong with that.

Fake love is everywhere and if you pay attention, sooner than later, it will expose itself. Once the truth is exposed, walking away won’t be hard. Life has its way of bringing you a distraction just to get you back focused on what really matters — you! You deserve the real thing. And sometimes, that real thing is staring you right in the mirror.
