With the New Year coming in, we all have these amazing plans of things we want to accomplish. But the truth is that our perception of the things we desire can make it difficult for us to reach these goals. We sometimes see our goals as this huge masterpiece that we are not capable of attaining. It seems like we put this immense amount of pressure on ourselves to achieve it RIGHT NOW. However, that is not how any level of success works.

So right now, I want you to commit to this ONE THING for 2018 — lay out a brick each day. That’s it. Focus on that one perfect brick in each area of your life. Think about what needs to be done today to ensure that your wall will be built overtime. Eliminate the pressure to have your great wall today, because it probably won’t happen.

Anything good is going to take time to build.

With the age of instant gratification, this concept can be hard to fully understand. Having to wait for something is a beautiful process in that it makes you become more. Consider people who hit the lottery bringing in millions of dollars instantaneously. They probably lost it all within a short amount of time. Why? They were not used to handling such a large amount of money. They had not considered what they would do with the money. Their minds were not centered on using it to build wealth, so they spend it just as quickly as they received it.

If you find yourself waiting longer than you expected, know that you are in a good place. You are developing the character to maintain what you desire.

Anyone can have something.

That’s the easy part.

The challenge is if you can maintain it.

How can you maintain what you want? Open yourself to knowing that taking small steps is ok. With each step, you will get closer and closer to your end result. Rushing the process will only separate you from your goal.

“Patience, persistence and perspiration make an unbeatable combination for success.” — Napoleon Hill

The reason we fear being patient is because we don’t think we will get what we really want. We try to get it as quickly as possible to avoid waiting for something. Waiting makes us feel like something is wrong with us. We immediately think — What’s wrong with me? Why don’t I have it RIGHT NOW?

Have you ever thought there is something better out there waiting for you to be ready for it?

Your dreams and goals are waiting on you to rise. They are waiting on you to be able to hold them with care. With great success comes greater responsibility.

This time, move towards building your wall every single day. Your wall is not in just one area of your life. A sturdy wall is going to require you to have an incredible balance for sustainability.

Spiritual Walk

As you climb towards success, do not ignore your spirit. It will fuel you to get up every single day and work on your wall. Dedicate spending 10 minutes a day just connecting to your soul in whatever way picks you up. If that is staying in prayer, reading the bible, or simply meditating, do it.

Mental Capacity

Your mentality behind the building of your wall is a foundational piece. Commit to speaking to yourself positively and forgiving yourself when you don’t. Your mind will transform with the things you feed into it. Invest in yourself every single day listening to podcasts, reading books, or getting coaching. Even if it is just 20 minutes of those “growth foods” daily, you are progressing more than you realize. Those 20 minutes a day add up to hundreds of hours within a few years.

Physical Strength

Your health is the center of your life. The way you treat your physical being will determine how much you will be able to contribute to your personal success. Think for a moment, if I don’t take care of myself, who will I be able to impact? I’m sorry, but being bound in bed will not allow you to write the book you’ve always wanted. It won’t allow you to travel the world. Decide today to put good foods into your body and exercise. Be specific on how you will do this as well as the when. Hold yourself accountable to stay alive and thrive to crush your goals.

Financial Growth

Let’s face it. We have to have money to enjoy our lives. Money cannot buy happiness, but it can buy you things you need and want to bring you happiness. That means you must make a conscious decision to get your finances in order. Set the goals, but work towards it each day. If you desire to save $1000 per year, that’s requiring you to save $2.75 daily. See how much easier that is when you break it down to what you can do each day?

Relational Embrace

For your success to expand, you are going to have to change your environment. There are some people you will not be able to stay around for any longer than five minutes. Seriously. Your energy is everything. How can you become everything you desire to be if you are constantly being emptied out into others who could not care less about you being great? Save that energy for people who really love you. Work towards being a better person in those relationships. Always remember, they are the real reason why you want to build a great wall — so they can live within it safely and secure.
