Google and its search results definitely lean towards the derogatory and downright rude answers, and one such example is when searching for “girls” https://www.google.com/#q=girl. The typical Internet user most likely assumes that a search engine as noteworthy and wide-ranging as Google would provide them with fair and unbiased results with little to no interference from outside corporations or parties as mentioned in the article. It is probable to suppose that no inappropriate results would show on an engine such as Google like in the scenario that Safiya Umoja Noble describes. The user most likely assumes a balanced search result in that no third-party interference or preference is shown to particular search results versus others.

These search results take away from the fairness of competition among corporations. Companies that can afford to buy the results will, forcing the up-and-coming, less established and less well-known organizations to the wayside, creating a cycle of the wealthy again remaining wealthy and the poor remaining poor. Google has taken some steps to resolve this quasi-corruption, one of which has been to offer more help in its support sections of the website to remove results. Another measure it has taken is offering the search tools to refine searches.
