There is a loneliness in
honing it down to the bone.
Sun and shadows, dappled meadows
greener than chlorophyll
sweeten the desire for sweetened desire.
This red clay will steal your shoes.
This muggy sun will make you sweat.
A child was killed near here by a car
going a hundred miles an hour.
The hoe knows cotton from weeds,
hide under a big hat to not be seen.
Brother died before he was weaned.
