What Can You Publish on Your Wall
Wait a minute?
I have a wall?
Woah!
I know, right?
The social features of The Open Mic have been greatly underused during our beta in October.
And this is probably my fault because I didnāt spend much time promoting these cool features.
So, please, let me rectify this with a help of this post.
Because The Open Mic has probably the most advanced networking features in the industry.
Itās like Twitter meets Facebook.
And it was designed for translators!
Now, I understand, that itās probably not going to replace other social networks.
And to be honest, itās not my intention. Let alone that I will never be able to compete with multi-billion companies.
But, hey!
We can at least try! :)
If you donāt have an account on The Open Mic now is the right time to get one!
Because, itās free forever and it offers you a ton of features and tools that can help you meet fellow translators, exchange ideas with your peers and make this industry a little bit better.
Plus, if you donāt have an account then everything Iām about to write wonāt make much sense :)
So what do you say?

So, what does it mean to Follow somebody on The Open Mic? What does it do?
Which brings me back to the headline of this post.
Every Member Has A Wall
I think there is no need to explain what wall is, right? :)
We all have social networks and know that your wall is a place where you post something.
A short update about your life. A video with kittens. A link to an interesting article that you found on the web or on The Open Mic itself.
Your wall is a pretty powerful and effective social media outlet where you can share anything you like.
What does it have to do with following or being followed by other people?
Well, as youāve probably guessed by now, when you publish something on your wall, your Followers see your updates just like in any other social network.
But where do they see it? Is there an activity stream or something?
Funny you asked this because there is!
Live From The Open Mic
Thatās the link in the Menu that will take you to our Activity Stream.
This is where you can see the activity of your followers and your own activity.
You can even post something on your wall directly from this page:
Share your thoughts, images, links, videos with your followers
And yes, you can use #hashtags in your wall posts and you can even @mention other people! (you have to follow them first to do that, though)
To mention someone type ā@ā and then start typing the name of the person and it will appear in a drop-down list.
Hereās a quick GIF that shows how you can mention someone in your wall post, add hashtags and even share links:
Itās super easy to mention other people, use hashtags and share links to awesome blog posts
Every single update you publish will be shared with your followers.
You can change your privacy settings on your account page.
If you donāt feel like sharing your wall with the whole world you can make it private or share it only with people YOU follow.
