Final Design Case
After months of iteration, we finally are able to present Guidely, our solution to MakerEd’s portfolio challenge.
The Problem
Students are creating great work that they want to share with others. Take Alex, a middle schooler. He is very proud of his interdisciplinary robot, made in his Art, History, and Science class. This group project involved weeks of research and construction. However, Alex cannot show us exactly what went through this complicated progress. He can only recount it aloud.
In addition to lacking process work, ultimately, his robot will be thrown away. Eventually, Alex cannot show his process work nor his final product.
On the flip side, we have Mr. Graig Marx. Graig is an experienced Science teacher and department chair at a local private high school. Graig is surrounded by platforms and learning management systems that all claim to solve his problems. However, this is unfortunately not the case.
In fact, the clutter of services makes Graig resort to classic USB storage sticks. He keeps track of all his students work manually because of the disorganized nature of current platforms.
Our goal is to create a solution that addresses both Alex and Graig’s needs. It is not enough to address only bits and pieces of the student and teacher problems. We must tackle the issue holistically in order to create a lasting effect on the ecosystem of education.
The Vision
Our vision is providing teachers the ability to scaffold, track, and assess project-based learning. In addition, we aim to allow students to effectively document, share, and reflect upon their work.
