Decision-making is a necessary part of living an optimal life. It is critical to increasing your chances for success, yet it can also be many people’s downfall. Here is a simplified approach that I’ve used which has always served me well.

It’s only five steps, so let’s start.

Step 1 Stop. Yep, we begin the process by stopping. Stop the workday, life distractions, and other interruptions that may pull your mental focus. It is best to find a place where you can quiet your mind. I start with stop because while it appears more productive to begin, we need to take the time to calm our body and mind, which is paramount to the next step.

Step 2 Think. Again, rushing off to do something seems the optimal way to begin anything. In reality, quick action can be an incorrect action. Time needs to be allotted to focus brain power on the decision. Thinking does not mean spending hours or days in contemplation. It may mean nothing more than a conscious consideration of the options. What are the pros and cons of choosing one option over another? With a quiet mind, ideas and thoughts of what to do and how to do it will flow more readily.
