A Nation’s Conscience Awakened: The Outcry for Justice in Kolkata
From Tragedy to Protest: Uncovering the Truth Behind the RG Kar Medical College Rape-Murder Incident and the Political System’s Moral Bankruptcy
The Incident
On August 9, a brutal and tragic crime shook Kolkata to its core. A 31-year-old postgraduate trainee doctor at RG Kar Medical College and Hospital was raped and murdered. Her lifeless body, marked by severe injuries, was discovered in the seminar hall of the hospital. Initial reports misleadingly labeled it as a suicide, but soon the truth began to surface, revealing a heinous crime that has since captured national attention.
Kolkata Police initially registered a case of ‘alleged suicide,’ but discrepancies quickly emerged. The arrest of Sanjay Roy on August 10, after a prolonged interrogation and confession, confirmed the worst: this was not a suicide but a brutal rape and murder. Protests erupted as the Indian Medical Association (IMA) and doctors across the country demanded immediate action and transparency in the investigation. The case, however, only grew murkier with every passing day.
