It is totally understandable that at some point, we have all felt overwhelmed with either school, work, or family responsibilities.

Everything becomes even more challenging when we try to combine multiple tasks and activities as life becomes more demanding.

Because there is so much to be done, most people work longer hours to ensure they complete all their tasks.

However, working longer hours can make little difference. It will often leave you feeling overwhelmed.

Taking on too much work or responsibilities can lead to easily forgetting things, having less energy, feeling confused often, and losing interest in things you loved before.

If you feel any or all of these, then you are most likely overwhelmed, and it could be detrimental to your mental health.

Here are some effective solutions that can help:

Identification

The first step is to identify what is causing your overwhelm and write it down. Once you have it noted down, break it into smaller components, and if you’re working on a project, try renegotiating the deadline with your superior.

Take some time out

Spend some time doing anything unrelated to the overwhelming situation you’re facing. For an hour or two, try to cook, read a fiction book, watch a movie, or do anything else that relieves tension before returning to your work. This will help your brain unwind and become more focused.

Be kind to yourself

It’s important to understand that feeling overwhelmed is a natural response to challenging situations. Understanding this allows you to treat yourself better when you are feeling overwhelmed.

Talk to someone

Reach out to a friend, spouse, or family member and express your feelings. Talking about other things or expressing your feelings can help you forget your current circumstances.

Remember that while feeling overwhelmed is a common experience, thinking about it won’t make it go away or make it any better. Identify the cause, take a break, be kind to yourself, or talk to someone. Then resume when you are feeling better.
