Cultivating a Growth Mindset: Embracing Challenges and Learning From Failures
Do you love challenges? How often do you challenge yourself? Do you strive for growth? And how do you measure growth? I know those are lots of questions. But they are worth asking for your development.
Talent vs Skill
Do you think talent beats skill? Or skill beats talent? This is an evergreen discussion. But most of the time we know the answer. It’s neither. Well, the answer is, you guessed it: Hard work. And that’s how you build skill through hard work. The key to growth is consistency with your hard work. You do it again and again until you master it.
Hardwork beats Talent. It’s very simple. Work hard enough till you master an art. That is how people succeed. Even if you are talented, if you don’t work on yourself you mostly won’t be able to outdo your peers who by the way might not be talented as you but hardworking.
It all comes down to mindset. It is a fixed mindset vs a growth mindset. This concept is explained excellently in Atomic Habits by James Clear.
It’s very simple. People with a growth mindset outdo people with a fixed mindset. Always. People with fixed mindsets think and believe that they cannot change what they are born with it. And anytime they fail, this belief just becomes stronger and makes them more prone to giving up. While it is the opposite for people with growth mindsets. They believe in making mistakes, growing, and never giving up.
So which one are you? If you have a growth mindset, you are learning something new and growing every day. Trust me, one year from now, you’ll be 2x powerful than you are now. And people with a fixed mindset, we have a problem!
Top 5 Practical Tips for an Effective Routine Transformation
- Be Patient. To begin with, accept the fact that the process might be long, exhausting, and will make you uncomfortable. But that’s how you know you are growing.
- Learn from your mistakes. Accept failures. We all learn in every aspect of life. Be ready to dive into a mindset where you are learning every day. Small or big, learnings come in different ways. Have an open mind.
- Be optimistic. No matter how many times you fail, what matters is how fast you get up. The most important thing is every time you get up, remember how you fell and find a different way so as not to fall again the same way.
- Accept criticism. Having an open mind doesn’t just mean learning new things. It also means learning what not to do, which you learn through feedback. Some people get offended. But think of it as an opportunity to grow and better yourself.
- Set goals. No matter how unclear you are with your goals, write them out! And that will bring you more clarity on your goals. The most effective way is to write them down and set them in a place where you can see them regularly. This way you are reminded constantly of what you need to do.
Incorporate these tips into your routine and you will see changes soon. Remember to be patient. Time changes everything. Even the worst.
