How Therapy Helped Me Unpack a Lifetime of Bullying and Trauma

Now I’m left wondering why I didn’t get therapy sooner

Earlier this year, I finally got therapy. I now realise that I should have done this a long time ago. So why didn’t I? And what finally prompted me to do so?

As a child, my older brother bullied me

I wrote about this back in October 2021:

Much of my childhood involved having fights with him. Full-on physical fights. He would hit me, and I would hit back to defend myself.

He would also tease me and boss me around. He made fun of the clothes I wore, the music I listened to, and the people I was friends with.

The problem was, he was 3 years older, so he was a bit stronger, and often a few steps ahead of me. So, I usually came off worse.

Except for that one time when I slammed his bedroom door on him and his big toe got stuck under it. Or that time when he punched me so hard in the back that he fractured his finger.
