There’s an invigorating motivation in the beginning.

That hype that motivates you for the first 17 days of January — before the thrill wears off and the journey drags you down.

You face delays, fall behind, and feel guilty. You hit obstacles, get discouraged, and lose willpower. You try to keep up but overwhelm seeps into your psyche. You grow weary of the whole endeavour.

Stop fighting. Drop everything. Begin again.

Not from the beginning, but from where you are.

Take the next step as the first step.

This is mindfulness applied more broadly. When you notice you’ve been distracted, begin again with a fresh mind.

Did you give into old habits? Just begin again. You didn’t fulfil your expectations? Don’t get hung up on it, simply begin again.

Treat this next moment as a shiny new object. Relieve yourself of regret and disappointment.

Begin again with the knowledge that the past is out of your hands.

The future is built in the present.
