Most of us have heard the saying that it’s not good to drink ice cold water because it can give you a stomachache. However, there’s more to it than that. Drinking extremely cold water can actually be harmful to your health. I personally avoid ice-cold water because I have always had sensitive teeth. Also, ice cold water always burned my throat and I never saw the appeal.

Stomach: One of the dangers of drinking ice cold water is that it can actually cause gastrointestinal problems. Who would have thought? When you drink very cold water, it constricts the blood vessels in your digestive tract. This can lead to cramping, bloating, and other uncomfortable symptoms.

Dehydration: In addition, drinking ice cold water can contribute to dehydration. Say what?? When your body is trying to warm the cold water you’ve consumed, it uses up valuable fluids that could be used to keep your body properly hydrated.

Headaches: Drinking ice cold water can also lead to other health problems. For example, it can contribute to headaches and migraines. When you drink cold water, the blood vessels in your throat constrict. This can lead to a headache because the vessels in your head are also constricting.
