We’re excited to announce a new position, Senior Journalist/Editor at The Org.

The Org is a professional platform where you can explore any company’s organizational chart. Founded in November 2017, The Org has offices in New York City and Copenhagen. We’re backed by some of the world’s leading investors including Founders Fund, Sequoia, and Balderton.

We believe a company’s greatest asset is its people. This includes the folks who are never highlighted on the company website, never lauded in the press, and never showcased to the outside world. These people drive the company and make it successful.

While org charts and team pages are our core product, we are also a news platform, where we cover the latest developments in tech and business, and tell stories about people, teams, and culture at the world’s most interesting companies. We use news as a way to bring legitimacy to our core product, to inform our users about the most important things happening in the professional community, and to cement ourselves as thought leaders in our industry. We have already established a following of about 40,000 readers a month, but we are only just getting started.

We recently raised a Series A and are expanding our team. Specifically, we’re hiring a Senior Journalist/Editor in New York City to work with our Head of Content and CEO, to cover the most things happening in business. This person will also help us develop an entirely new content vertical, meaning you will be a pseudo founder of a new brand and product.

We’re hiring for a Senior Journalist/Editor with several things in mind:

  • Our goal is to be inclusive in this search, truly welcoming people from different backgrounds and perspectives into the process.
  • The job title is Senior Journalist/Editor but this shouldn’t limit how you perceive the opportunity. Your goal is to not just develop, manage and write for our news page, but to help grow our rapidly moving company, and establish a voice for our brand.
  • We’re looking for someone with 5–10 years experience writing about tech or business, who is ready to make the next step into editing and managing the next big thing in news. The Org is also still early stage and you will spend significant time actually doing the work.

You are:

  • An exceptional writer and lover of news, with a fierce passion for tech, and an entrepreneurial mindset.
  • Social media savvy, ideally with an impressive presence on Twitter.
  • Creative and experimental. You’re generally skeptical of the status quo and the way it’s been done before.
  • Ambitious. You are eager to make an impact at The Org. You thrive in a fast-moving, dynamic, hyper-growth environment.
  • Passionate about technology. You enjoy knowing the latest technology trends and learning from them.
  • A team player. You will work closely with not just your content colleagues, but the entire team at The Org. You will also be responsible for coordinating with freelance writers.

You will be responsible for writing and editing news stories and assisting with managing and developing our news platform. Sitting within the growth team, you will work directly with the Head of Content and be also involved in developing and implementing different strategies to drive traffic and engagement on the platform.

Ideally we are looking for someone with experience in writing for a leading tech publication, who is ready to take a step up to a writing and editing role. However we are open to interesting candidates from different backgrounds.

Career Growth at The Org

Successful Org members are rigorous thinkers. You speak your mind and passionately defend your opinion. We want people who are unafraid to be wrong, enthusiastically change their minds, and who support decisions with numbers and narrative.

We’re tiny relative to the opportunity and have a staggering amount of work ahead. That means you could have an unprecedented impact in defining the future of business while doing the most important work of your career.

We Don’t Have All The Answers

Our plan can seem ambiguous and lofty. It is. Most people think it’s unrealistic. Public organizational charts and real transparency at work? This vision is constantly challenged by opaque and mysterious precedent. It’s important that the skepticism fuels rather than deters you.

The problems we’re most excited to solve are far beyond our current areas of expertise, which is motivating to us. It enables incredible growth for people joining The Org. We want specialists who are experts in their respective fields and yet are still tirelessly learning. Above all, you’re seeking something that hasn’t been solved.

Who We Are

We are a diverse and international team of 25 stationed in offices in New York City and Copenhagen. This position sits in our Soho office in New York City, and you will need to relocate if you are not already in NYC. You will also need the ability to work in the USA.

How to Apply

Please apply via the job post on our website. Candidates might be interviewed on a rolling basis but all applications submitted by July 17 will be considered. The start date for the position is no later than September 1, 2020 — but the sooner you can join us the better.

In Closing

We want to meet a broad set of candidates and run an inclusive process. If something here prompts a question or concern for you, please contact us at feedback@theorg.com to share your feedback. Thanks for your interest in joining The Org team!
