Rechained Ltd. was assigned 3 United States patents on information security

Rechained Ltd., the software development arm of the OS.University project become the owner of 3 U.S. patents in the field of information security, information processing and encoding. The patents are registered with the United States Patent and Trademark Office.

Invaluable to the development roadmap of the world’s learning and development ledger on the blockchain, the patents were assigned as part of Rechained Ltd. engagement with the LOT Network — a global non-profit, focused on protecting innovation.

Classification-wise, the patents cover the following:

  • Cryptographic mechanisms or cryptographic arrangements for secret or secure communication including means for verifying the identity or authority of a user of the system or for message authentication, e.g. authorization, entity authentication, data integrity or data verification, non-repudiation, key authentication or verification of credentials involving certificates, e.g. public key certificate [PKC] or attribute certificate [AC]; Public key infrastructure [PKI] arrangements using certificate validation, registration, distribution or revocation, e.g. certificate revocation list [CRL]; Revocation or update of secret information, e.g. encryption key update or rekeying;
  • Network architectures or network communication protocols for network security for providing a confidential data exchange among entities communicating through data packet networks wherein the data content is protected, e.g. by encrypting or encapsulating the payload wherein the sending and receiving network entities apply asymmetric encryption, i.e. different keys for encryption and decryption; Network architectures or network communication protocols for network security for supporting authentication of entities communicating through a packet data network using certificates;

OS.University innovative distributed application helps learners and employees who need recognition of their educational and professional accomplishments beyond institutional and national borders. We help them through the professional’s credentials passport on the blockchain, which enables frictionless authentication, traceability, and immutability of the relevant data stored. The information processing apparatus unveiled in the patents that are in possession of Rechained Ltd. will enable for our strategic goals to be achieved more effectively and efficiently.

As an open source project, OS.University’s goal is not to assert patents against any other aspiring innovators in the blockchain and the edtech space, rather to utilize the main value proposition of the LOT Network patent program. The program aims to immunize the community from PAEs, i.e. patent trolls. All LOT Network members, among whom Rechained Ltd. T/A Open Source University, sign the exact same 10-page agreement that gives fellow members a free license (immunity) to any patent asset that is transferred to a PAE. At the same time, we as LOT Network members are free to use our patents for all the traditional uses, e.g. cross-licensing or as collateral to secure financing.
