it’s a cold night at the
crossroads
when the devil
doesn’t show
she swerves to miss
the coyote
playing in the snow

i observe it all
from this tower high
standing by
the devil’s chevrolet
she never saw the car speeding her way

it’s a starry night at the inn
the usual crowd is in
drunken ruckus with shadows to stroke your sins
the heartfull knight at the table center

lit by lanterns and the big fire’s cinders
tells his tales of dragons slain
drunken townsfolk praise his bravery and
handsome face
never aware or the circling, tightening, wraith

come on sweet little
susie jane
let’s go outside
and play in the rain

your darkened ranger
the only one
aware of the danger
is just here for a bloody pint
a shadow to sink into
his camouflage…
