She moved slowly, upwardly and into the light
Crawling forward, falling backward, then forward again
Softly heaving and breathing with all of her might

Her spirit was shaken as she pushed through the night
Broken and so tired, she could not remember when
She moved slowly, upwardly and into the light

Sleep offered solace but fear persisted despite
Numbness and pain with a threshold of ten
Softly heaving and breathing with all of her might

She prayed to her God asking for strength to ignite
Her ascension continued, moving out of her den
She moved slowly, upwardly and into the light

Steadily her pace quickened, her body in-flight
Pushing upward, falling backward, then upward again
Softly heaving and breathing with all of her might

Each day offered hope, the goal hung clearly in sight
Her body healing and feeling each ache with a yen
She moved slowly, upwardly and into the light
Softly heaving and breathing with all of her might
