Will The Next Gen Of Harry Potter Fans Be More Principled?
Because the first generation of Hogwartians haven’t had much of an impact de-railing the Rowling gravy train.
The full sum of my feelings on JK Rowling can be summed up with the phrase ‘meh’ and a gentle shrug of my feaethery shoulders. She’s not the best writer in the world but she has talent. On the one hand, she created a generation of new child-readers, on the other hand they’re all now in their late twenties/early thirties and insufferable at parties.
If another Harry Potter-themed ‘Emporium’ shows up in a picturesque part of the country I might have to take out an injunction.
Now there has been a re-imagining of the Potter world with an imminent TV series, and the culture wars are hotting up again. For all her literary acumen Rowling also managed to wade into the culture wars of the last fifteen years like a Monster Heel in a wrestling promo.
Honestly, it’s never ending.
It’s going to be like the Hundred Years War, but instead of the Black Prince and Poitiers, we’re going to have Paapa Essiedu and endless discussions about whether Severus Snape is Black.
