5 Things An Adoptive Parent Wants You to Know About the Adoption Wait
I won’t sugarcoat it for you.
My husband and I ultimately decided to adopt our second child.
We went from not being allowed to get pregnant to not being able to get pregnant to adoption.
We were filled with peace with the decision until the wait seemed to linger on, and our emotions whiplashed back and forth between unrest and patience.
However, this past January of 2025, we got the call. Our baby boy was here.
It’s been four months since we brought him home, and while we are overjoyed, there are some factors I feel compelled to share about the adoption wait in case you are in the midst of it and feel alone.
1. The wait will feel long
We started the adoption process in March of 2023. We decided to do the payment plan where we would spend six months raising the money we needed and working on all our paperwork and adoption requirements.
We were supposed to go active in September of 2023, but my mom passed away unexpectedly in August, so we delayed the process by two months.
Finally, in November of 2023, we went active.
