My Spotify Playlist is Now a Toddler Dance Party
The subtle (and not so subtle) ways in which my life has become fully invaded by parenthood
As I sit at my home office desk and open up my work laptop, I immediately go to Spotify to turn on some mood music to mentally pump myself up for the work day ahead. I click the play button to continue music from a curated playlist of songs that I’ve had on repeat for the past few weeks.
As I settle into work mode, one of my favorite indie-folk songs ends and then abruptly switches to the high-pitched voice that I quickly recognize as Elmo — I immediately press pause. I skip to the next song and am invited back into the calm melody of acoustic indie, but it wasn’t long until I was again interrupted by yet another abrupt genre switch that played the tune of my one-year old daughter’s favorite nursery rhyme.
This is just one of the many ways I’ve noticed my life has become fully invaded by parenthood — simple things like the gradual transformation of my Spotify playlist becoming a toddler dance party, the strategically placed and hyper-targeted social media ads of toddler products throughout my Facebook feed, the never-ending parenting reels and memes of Motherhood that are all too relatable as a parent to a now-nineteen month old.
