The Cost Of Diapers Is Soaring

My wife and I are expecting our fifth child this fall. The fourth is still in diapers. Seeing as she still doesn’t mind pooping in them, I’ll consider myself a lucky man if get a two-month run without having to buy a 168-pack of Huggies.

All the more so since the cost of diapers has risen over 25% in the last six years. That’s ten times the inflation rate!

As I see it, there are two possible explanations for this absurdity. Either someone wants us to stop having kids, or someone knows damn well that we won’t stop having them so they can charge us as much as they want.

My wife and I have tried the bargain brands, but forget it. Is the five-dollar difference really worth it to track through the house looking for where the seepage started? Luckily, our two-year-old woke up talking one morning, so she was able to tell me where and how she took off her Huggie … in four or five full sentences. She wasn’t even trying to be funny.

If you’re reading this and have taken the plunge into cloth washables, can you please comment and let me know what demon possessed you? I’m not saying it’s a bad idea, but I can’t think of a single good reason why my wife and I should ditch the disposables and double our daily laundry load.
