Why Employers Need to Be More Flexible with Remote Work
The need for change and for some employers to get out of their archaic views on what mothers can do at home
I was offered a job today. I’ve been without one for almost two months. I left my corporate job to pursue a passion project of mine that hasn’t quite panned out how I thought it would. So, I started applying for more traditional jobs in the nonprofit sector that I thought would work well around my young family. The job was advertised as a hybrid Network & Outreach Coordinator position. The position would entail getting the word out about the services and programs this particular nonprofit has to offer.
I went through two rounds of interviews. The first time I asked about the hybrid schedule, letting the people doing my interview know that I live about an hour from their corporate office. All three coordinators on the virtual interview assured me that they had people that lived all over our region and it was not a problem as this was a hybrid job.
During the second interview, I asked again. They said currently they had people go into the office a minimum of two times per month, but were in the process of “revamping their hybrid work policy.” I figured this meant worst case, maybe everyone would be asked to go in one day a…
