4.05AM

Its 4.05AM and I’m sat in the living room with my 2 year old Emilie who seems to have lost the concept of sleep. In fact both Emilie and Oliver, my 7 year old lad seem have turned nocturnal, both deciding to take it in turns to wake each other up. I sometimes think that this is something they negotiate with each other before the bedtime routine starts. Needless to say I’ve been up all night trying to return each of them to their bed. I failed!

What else is there to do at 4.05AM on Monday morning, but have a rant on Facebook about still being up at 4.05AM. Much to my surprise many friends started to comment on my post. Admittedly, the first people offering their support were mates in Australia, where it certainly wasn’t 4.05AM, but others soon followed. Many were parents who sympathised, as they too shared a house with little creatures of the night and were also struggling to home school, work from home and generally keeping things going in a global pandemic, whilst answering the door to the Amazon Delivery guy. A couple of those in the Facebook thread suggested writing a blog about parenting through lockdown. I suspect this might be to subvert me from posting a regular whinge on their personal feed, but hey ho!

So… This is a short blog about coping as a grownup in 2021. It certainly will not offer you tips on ‘how to be a good parent’ or ‘how to master home schooling’ for your little fledgings. Probably, its going to be the opposite!

It’s more likely to provide some peace of mind in knowing that it is impossible to be a model parent and home teacher, whilst providing nutritious home cooked healthy food and doing a daily online fitness class in attempts to live the Joe Wicks lifestyle.

So grab a gin and tonic, or what every is left in cupboard and join the Parent’s Supporters Club. By the way Dry January finished on the 2nd — congratulations if you made it one day!
